Our story
Mandurang Valley Wines is in the heart of Central Victoria, only a few kilometres from the geographical centre of the state.
The winery is situated 9 kilometres South East of Bendigo and is established in historic vineyard country. This area was a foundation viticulture and winemaking region in Australia in the late 1800s, but the region was decimated by the Phylloxera outbreak in 1893.
Mandurang Valley Wines and The Vine Family
A winery that is built around family, community and sense of connectedness to the terroir of Mandurang. The three generations of The Vine Family have invested much into building Mandurang Valley Wines into a wine service provider and maker of fine wine.
Wes and Pamela Vine planted the first vines in 1976. With both demonstrating a passionate interest in wine and winemaking, the first vintage was produced in 1980 for their consumption, with friends benefiting from the excess stock.
With a Science Degree and a Diploma of Agriculture, Wes’s grape growing and wine making have provided an application for his formal training. Travelling widely throughout Australia and Europe has further increased his knowledge and expertise.
Jacqui and Steve Vine joined the business in the mid-1990’s, establishing a vineyard in Mandurang to allow the winery to further expand and offer an expanded range of varieties.
Pam led the way through the establishment of a Cellar Door with events, meals and a cosy space for people to share wine and food in a relaxed and homelike atmosphere that appealed to both Pam and Wes in their travels in Europe.
During the past thirty years, Mandurang Valley Wines has developed a significant presence in the Wine Industry. It has grown from a small enterprise into an established exporter of wine, a producer of award-winning wines, and a specialist in custom-made wines. This contract winemaking and onsite bottling has grown to be a substantial aspect of the winery’s activities, and the success of those wines in commercial terms and in awards is something of which we are very proud.
As the winery has grown, so have the personnel, with Steve Vine as a qualified winemaker, Jacqui assisting with cellar door and website, Oliver Vine working in Agri-Business, and Tristan Vine expanding our IT capacity and modernising business practices. Julia married Tristan in 2025 and has become an innovator in our social media space. It goes without saying that come ‘harvest’ time, you will find us all involved in the vineyards and winery, enjoying the fruits of our labour!
The future is bright for Mandurang Valley Wines, with three generations of winemaking onboard and family investment in the ongoing growth of the business. New horizons are always being considered, and we aim to continue showcasing excellence in our family-focused winery.
Our Grenache Story
Grenache has long been a loved wine in Australia. Making its way from Europe in the 1800’s, it became a staple of the burgeoning Australian wine industry and was loved for its ability to produce large crops and rich fruit well suited to fortified wine.
The Vine Family at Mandurang Valley Wines has embraced this wonderful adaptable variety and specialises in making it as a rose sparkling wine, a rose to be released in early 2026 and into a red wine. Grenache is also wonderful in a blend, so our Grenache Shiraz Monastrell (GSM) is a fan favourite.
Grenache provides something for everyone’s tastebuds!
